A Few Pointers For Life Long Health: Sharon Stone On Fitness
Posted on May 26, 2009 by Andrew in Celebrity Diets & Workouts .
Sharon Stone has been a fixture of Hollywood’s most recognizable women for quite some time, having captured our
attention in movies like BASIC INSTINCT, CASINO and THE QUICK AND THE DEAD. And throughout her career, Stone has managed to remain beautiful and fit even while out of the limelight. So what tricks has she learned over the years? For one thing, she’s not afraid of taking advice from even the most peculiar of sources (Dateline MSNBC):
Over the years, I have met all these different people who have taught me things. I do these kind of ab things that a circus performer taught me when I was in Africa. She was a tightrope walker and she taught me these ab things. They’re called jackknifes and I actually get up, like on a table. I can do them on the floor sometimes.”
For those of you who aren’t familiar, the jackknife workout is an ab exercise you do laying flat on your back at first and then you lift your legs straight up in the air as you also move your upper torso upwards in an effort to have your fingers and toes touch directly above your stomach.
In her interview with Stone Phillips mentioned above, Sharon Stone alludes to the fact that with health and fitness as a constant in your life, you can even slack off from time to time:
Stone Phillips: Do you exercise every day?
Sharon Stone: No.
Stone Phillips: Every other day?
Sharon Stone: No.
Stone Phillips: Couple of times a week?
Sharon Stone: Sometimes. It just depends. I go on benders where I just exercise like a maniac. And then I go on benders where I just can only take baths. Like I have to lay down to bathe and I could go on that for six months.”
It goes back to the whole ‘muscle has memory’ adage, which allows the life long fitness fanatic the freedom to take time off from working out every now and then. After all, your body needs more than a days rest after a while of heavy training. And as for her thoughts on dieting?
“I pretty much eat what I want. But, now, I don’t want a lot of the stuff that probably would be, you know… I want to look good in a bikini: I don’t want to have six beers and a pizza.”
That is of course, a simplified answer to a somewhat complicated balancing act. However, it holds true that if you want to look good in a bathing suit, you need to decide if that’s more important to you than the ’six beers and a pizza’. But just like the rest of us, Stone has her favorite current workouts and eating tricks. These days,
“Sharon now follows the GI (Glycaemic Index) diet in a bid to keep her body slender and is also a Pilates fan.” (Mirror.co.uk)

Thanks Andrew. I love SS! I think she looks fantastic and is amongst the most beautiful women in the world. And in her 50’s? WOW!
Even better to hear that she takes time out and is a fan of low GI….sounds rather like myself!
