BREAKING NEWS: Health And Fitness Blogger Caught Eating Ice Cream!
Posted on Jun 17, 2009 by Andrew in Cheat Days, Inspiration, Nutrition, Riff, Weight Loss .
Ever since the start of Go Healthy Go Fit, there has been one phrase that I’ve heard more than any other… and it just so
happens to be the focus of this very post. Anytime I get caught eating anything other than grilled chicken and broccoli, it seems that no matter who I’m with, as long as they are aware of my website, they immediately utter the words, “That’s not very Go Healthy Go Fit of you!” (You know who you are!)
So today I thought I’d share my thoughts on the subject, seeing as I usually just roll my eyes since I’ve heard that phrase more times than Wayne Knight has heard the phrase “Hello Newman.” (hope you all got the Seinfeld reference there). On with the show!
Scoreboard
My man Jim Rome (host of the sports talk show ROME IS BURNING) made this word famous. All things equal, it means that if the numbers have been weighed in, all arguments in opposition are meaningless. So, for example, if someone wanted to make the argument that the ‘09 Orlando Magic were a better team than the ‘09 Los Angeles Lakers, you could simply say the word “scoreboard” to show that the Lakers won the Finals series, erego, they are a better team.
Well folks, when I created Go Healthy Go Fit, I weighed in at 190 pounds and around 11.5% body fat (falling within the category of “athlete” in terms of body fat percentage). Now, a little less than a year later, I’m weighing in at 168 pounds and 6% body fat!! That’s right, I have almost cut my body fat percentage in half!! So what do you think I’m about to say?? SCOREBOARD! Looks like that pint of Ben & Jerry’s didn’t put too much of a dent in the old fitness jar.
The Tip Of The Iceburg Theory Does Not Apply To My Fitness
For every time someone catches me eating my trademark ribs, ice cream or even cookies, there are about 100 times where no one pays attention to the hard work and dedication I exhibit both inside and outside of the gym. Whether it’s eating my delicious meals comprised entirely of whole foods or it’s my grueling efforts hitting the heavy bag with a seamless transition onto sprint intervals on the row machine, most of the time I am putting forth 150% effort towards refining my body into a machine.
Some may say that I am obsessed with working out and eating right, but the truth of the matter is that I feel a deep seeded obligation to you, my readers, to stay in top shape. In fact, you could almost say that I am compelled to lead by example. Eating ice cream out of a carton is truly an ice-olated incident, and not the tip of the iceburg.
It’s The Payoff That You See… And I Love It!
I try and tell people that life is meant to be enjoyed and that health/fitness should never be looked at as constantly punishing yourself or depriving yourself. The most successful people I know (with regards to their fitness throughout a lifetime) do from time to time indulge in those little pleasures that make it all worth while.
After all, if you structure your approach to health and fitness as allowing for sinful rewards, you will be more inclined to lead a healthy life on a long timeline. And why do I love it, you ask? Because while I’m eating my ice cream, or ribs, or whatever, I know in my heart that the hard work paid off and now I get to enjoy a little cheat time baby!
So when it’s all said and done, I can see the phrase coming from a mile away and it doesn’t really phase me anymore (I actually find it rather amusing at this point). But I’m more fixated on whether or not you, the reader, would like to be able to experience the very amusement that I feel. Wouldn’t you love to hear people question your health and fitness as you partake in a cheat meal, having worked tirelessly to forge a body of your dreams? I’m here to tell you that you can have your cake and eat it too, if you’re willing to work hard and stay consistent!

And it’s the payoff that counts…kudos. I definitely agree with the theory that in order for you to maintain a lifestyle geared towards optimal health and fitness, too much structure can be your enemy. Every now and then, you need to take some time to enjoy those things that bring you pleasure. Ice cream just happens to be one of my GUILTY pleasures.

That’s not very Go healthy Go Fit of You ha. You forgot that we also call you fatty and talk about how you have a bigger sweet tooth than anyone we know! Lol…anyways, the foods that are “bad’ for you are way more delicious, and rewarding, when you treat yourself. When they become a part of your regular diet you get a little chub where you don’t want it and your health decreases.
So, I completely agree with this article and love when I get the chance to eat whatever I want (so it seems) and be like….SCOREBOARD….son!
PS-I think it’s incontestable to everyone that the Lakers are the better team after it turned into a 5-game series wooping. Better example next time plz

There’s nothing wrong with eating unhealthy, ie: Ice Cream, Cookies, Candy, etc. Just don’t eat the entire carton or bag. Where’s the fun in eating carrot sticks?
Eat what ya want and work your butt of in the gym. Obviously everything eat junk in small proportions, but try not to be one of these freaks about it…. you’ll end up missing out on some of the best things in life.

Do I lose points if I say that I took that carton of Ben and Jerry’s down in three days? it’s all good, I hadn’t had Ben and Jerry’s for quite some time, so every once and a while it’s cool.
All the Best,
Andrew

I can honestly say that I think about stopping at a MacDonalds 3 times a week… and I’d say I can fight it off most of the time, but the good old soft serve cone is pretty awesome.
