Is Miley Cyrus Developing Good Eating Habits?

Posted on Jan 07, 2009 by Andrew in Celebrity Diets & Workouts .

Miley Cyrus 3Yesterday, we took a look at whether or not Miley Cyrus should be working out at her age, let alone enlisting the services of a personal trainer. But hey, she’s got tons of money, she earned it, she should be able to spend it on whatever she wants. Good for you Miley!

But now onto the question of her diet. We’ve already discussed the fitness component of The 5 Factor plan, created by Harley Pasternak. Here’s a brief synopsis of the diet part (Reality Method):

“The core of the 5 factor method of eating comprises, of course, a factor of 5: eating 5 distinct meals a day, each of which shouldn’t take longer than 5 minutes to prepare.”

While eating 5 meals a day can help you lose or maintain weight, we know that the reason for that is due to reducing your total daily caloric intake, not because it boosts your metabolism! For more on this, check out this article on why the 5-7 meal a day recommendation is actually a myth!

So what do these 5 meals a day look like? (Celebrity-Diets Miley Cyrus):Miley Cyrus 3

“You have five meals in one day on the 5 Factor Diet plan:

Meal One - Protein Berry Shake

Meal Two - Mushroom-Barley Risotto

Meal Three - Antipasto

Meal Four - French toast with Ricotta

Meal Five - Indian Style Chicken with Curried Yogurt and Brown Rice.”

French toast on a meal plan? Wow, never seen that one before! But this is simply an example of the meals from the program. From what I gather, the 5 Factor meal plan recommends mostly whole foods, so that’s good. Have you had any experience with the 5 Factor program? What are your thoughts on it?

Lets be honest… she is 16. She could probably get away with eating what ever she wants (almost) and not suffer too badly.

Im very wary to discuss any postion of a child’s eating/fitness/physique- its a very impressional age, and I know how easily comments can skew a young girls perception of herself.

I see pictures of her eating ice cream and burgers constantly- shes a baby, i dont think she pays too much attention to what she eats, which at her age is a good things.

The fact that she thinks she needs to be on a diet is scary….because she is already in great shape. If she doesn’t watch it she will suffer from self image problems for years to come (which usually can go hand in hand with severe health issues as well). That and anyone who has a “celebrity diet” they sell is full of crap. Just eat good whole foods, get some exercise and nature takes care of the rest.

@ SoG: I think that’s a big almost there. When I was 16, I ate whatever I wanted and I was overweight because of it. And according to the data trends in childhood obesity, I’m not the only one. I’m not saying she should count her calories by any means, but developing good eating habits would be a good idea for anyone that age.

@ Kelly: I’m picking up what you’re putting down. I’m aware of how easy it is for young girls to get out of control when it comes to body self image. She should be able to enjoy the little indulgences in life, but I think she’s smart to start things off giving whole foods the credit they deserve.

@ Mike OD: You’re right. I think that it’s important for the people she surrounds her self with to let her know that she looks fine the way she is and that she is smart to base her diets on good whole foods.

I agree with what I was sayin’ yesterday- it’s all good, as long as she keeps talking about being healthy and not weight loss. Obesity’s on the rise, so kids DO actually need to be more aware of what they’re eating, as long as they’re not obsessing over being skinny.

I think what a lot of you don’t know or didn’t realize is that Miley Cyrus is hypoglycemic. She has talked about this in a couple of interviews and about how she has HAD to make better decisions concerning food and physical fitness. Also remember: she doesn’t go to school, so she doesn’t have a regular gym class like a normal teenager.

@ BEE: Couldn’t agree with you more! Well put.

@ Mandy: That’s a very interesting point. I’ll have to do an article on hypoglycemia so the readers can get a better feel for the obstacles that Miley must go through on a day to day basis.

    Thanks for your comments!

    Mandy,

That is interesting. I did not know she was hypoglycemic 9 I have to admit my Hannah Montana knowledge is very very limited.) Another point.. unfortunately most normal teenagers don’t have a regular gym class anymore either. PE programs are being cut from schools (some people claim due to no student left behind).

I’ve not got any experience with the 5 Factor meal plan but curried yoghurt? That sounds vile.

Tis pathetic eh SoG? the lack of physical education in schools? I know we have discussed before, but it’s a disgrace to think that schools/governments are condoning a sedentary lifestyle for our kids. shame on them!

As for her diet, I think its totally unrealistic for a normal 16 year old. I mean, what 16 yr old would be cooking mushroom/barley risotto for their 2nd meal at 11am? Ok for those with personal chefs who aren’t at school!

I think we need to get real !! A young celeb lifestyle isnt exactly typical of a snotty nosed teenager running around hating their parents and ruling the world……haha!!

@Tom - think chicken Korma! Or the yogurt sauce you dip your poppadoms in! Mmmmm!

    Tusc :D

I’m with you on that one Tusc, we need to make strides in physical education and fitness of the children. I couldn’t think of anything more important.

As a 15(almost 16) year old that is obese I think it is great of Miley to be trying to stay healthy. I know how easily you can gain weight even when you are a teenager so for her to just continue to stay healthy, IMO is a good thing. I agree that she does not need to lose weight but I do honestly believe that she does not plan on losing weight but to just stay healthy. She said recently on Access Hollywood ” I’m sure there are people who would think that I need to be skinnier but I feel healthy - I didn’t come out here(referring to Hollywood) to be a super model, I came out her to be an artist” So after hearing her say that and after hearing her say similar things in other interviews I do think that she just wants to be healthy. Also I do not think that teens(or anyone for that matter) should eat whatever they want whenever they want. I believe that you should be able to have a piece of cake here and there and stuff like that but I think it’s not a good thing to say that kids or teens can eat anything and everything because, as a previous commenter pointed out, Teens are very impressionable and giving them the idea that It’s OK to eat anything seems like a wrong message to be sending out to today’s youth. I know that I used to have a VERY unhealthy diet and I still do eat somewhat unhealthy, but I will admit that my eating habits have greatly improved. I’m sure I’m not as informed as most of you on this website are but I just thought that I would leave a comment letting you guys know how I as a teenager feel about this issue.

So in case what I wrote above was confusing, I’m basically saying that I think that physical education should be mandatory in all schools(as much as I hate PE lol). I’m not saying that teens need to be on diets but I do think it is important for teenagers to know about calories and what is bad for you and things like that..Just so they can at least know the basics. Sorry if what I wrote was confusing…Writing isn’t my best subject lol

      Hey Grace,

Thanks for leaving the great comment! I can speak for all the Go Healthy Go Fit squad here and let you know that we firmly agree with your point of view regarding both physical education in schools as well as developing proper eating habits at an early age. Take it from a guy who was overweight all through high school! I wish I would have tried harder in P.E.

Thanks again for leaving the comment and keep them coming! We love getting into good discussions here.

      All the Best,

      Andrew

I think that it is great that MIley would do that because of all the processed stuff that there is, just that alone is a great reason to eat more natural healthy foods. Her excercise is great not only because it is good for your heart but because sweat gets rid of toxins and chemicals from your body! She is really someone for me to look up to on this topic, but other than that I hate a lot of her music and the fact she posed for “nude” photos!
